SonoSlim Essential u2014 Retrofit-First Wall Insulation Panel

SonoSlim Essential is the entry-level panel in the SonoSlim wall system range u2014 designed specifically for situations where wall depth is the primary constraint. With a total installed system depth of under 40 mm, it is the preferred solution for retrofit projects in existing apartments, residential renovation works, and any application where every millimetre of floor area matters.

The panel is engineered for bonded installation directly onto an existing wall surface. No additional framing, no new structural substrate, and no complex sub-construction is required. The SONOTIZ BLOCK composite board is adhered to the existing wall using a compatible contact adhesive and secured with mechanical fixings (washered screws or anchor pins) once positioned. This approach dramatically reduces installation time and keeps the project within budget on smaller residential jobs.

Where SonoSlim Essential Performs Best

SonoSlim Essential is optimised for the following use cases:

  • Apartment partition walls u2014 internal walls between rooms in residential apartments, where airborne noise from neighbours or adjacent spaces needs to be reduced without sacrificing floor area. The slim profile means tenants lose less than 40 mm on each treated wall face.
  • Lightweight steel frame systems u2014 the bonded application method is compatible with metal stud framing and lightweight partition construction typical of modern apartment interiors and commercial fit-outs.
  • Retrofit and renovation projects u2014 when working inside an occupied or furnished space, SonoSlim Essential minimises disruption. The panel arrives pre-cut or can be trimmed on site, and no wet trades or drying time are required before finishing.
  • Rooms with restricted wall depth u2014 any interior where the total system depth must stay below 40 mm, such as narrow corridors, en-suite bathrooms, or built-in wardrobe backs.

Acoustic Performance and System Depth

The SonoSlim Essential system achieves an Rw improvement of approximately 8–12 dB when applied to a standard concrete or masonry base wall, depending on the base wall construction and finishing layer. One layer of acoustic gypsum board (12.5 mm) is used as the final surface layer, providing both structural rigidity and additional mass for sound attenuation.

The composite SONOTIZ BLOCK board at the core of the system combines a dense fibre-based acoustic layer with a rigid facing, creating a panel that absorbs mid-frequency airborne noise while the mass of the gypsum outer layer addresses low-frequency transmission. For an entry-level system, this combination delivers a meaningful acoustic upgrade in apartments and partitioned spaces where the base wall alone would not meet modern comfort expectations.

Total system thickness: 25 mm. Load capacity for shelf fixings or surface-mounted items is maintained through the acoustic gypsum outer layer u2014 standard M6 anchor screws rated to the board manufacturer’s specification apply.

When to Choose SonoSlim Essential

Choose SonoSlim Essential when: wall depth is critical and must stay under 40 mm total, the substrate is an existing smooth masonry or concrete wall suitable for adhesive bonding, the noise source is primarily airborne sound from adjacent rooms (conversation, TV, music), and the project does not require the highest possible Rw values. For projects requiring 40–60 mm depth capability or higher isolation performance (such as demising walls between apartments or office suites), consider upgrading to SonoSlim Advanced.
